Family Time: One Very Cold And Windy Hike

The Glendo Lake is a huge lake and there are tons of places to explore along the lake that we have not even been to. Every time the weather allows us to go for a hike, we take the chance. But this time, it was cold and the wind didn't help with the weather. We needed to go somewhere and take the kids out of the house so even with the cold windy weather and all, we still went. And we decided to explore this area. The wonderful thing about it is we didn't have to go too far away from home and didn't have to spend any money. We brought our own food and water for after the hike.

There were lots of huge fish heads and bones along the trail. I think we may have found where the good fishing spot is for the next fishing season.

Fish heads and bones weren't the only one present along the trail. There were these things too. I know the name, but I don't even know how to spell it so please let me know. (Kokobers? Cuckobers? Cucumber? LOL! I don't know how to spell it) These sticky, spinny things were all over the place and in fact, they pretty much dominated some parts of the beach. If you see some brown patches on the lake, those were these things. Not fun!

A little man found a broken fishing pole along the trail. He carried it all through the hike and back to the vehicle, and decided didn't want to take it home.

Dadda's teaching the young man about the safety and the danger when exploring places. I hope some of those went through his brain and will remember it. Every time we go somewhere to explore, we constantly remind our kids, especially the young man to always be careful and pay attention to the surroundings. It pays to be safe and cautious.

Both were tired and ready to go home.

Have a great weekend!

    1. Yep! The sun may be shining, but you would freeze to death if you weren't bundled up right. Plus, the wind wasn't helping and it made it even colder.

  11. Goodness, I almost had a heart attack seeing your little man up on those rocks. This mom's such a scaredy cat! :P My husband does the same with the kids and allows them to explore while I'm holding my breath and praying that no one would fall/trip/get hurt. :-)

    1. Hi mommy Olga. We like to explore a lot that it doesn't bother me anymore. It worries me, but I have to let go and let him grow up and explore. Good thing his dad's with him so I am fine. You should have seen him in some of our hiking trips, you would really have a heart attack. LOL! Kids are kids so we make sure to guide them and remind the of the danger. :) Thanks!

  13. That is certainly a beautiful place. Must have been quite a surprise to find the fish head so far from water. Does Harley have his own fishing pole? Bet he remembers Mamma catching some big catfish in Kansas. Another great video. Thanks for sharing.

    1. It sure is a beautiful place. Tim and I thought that it must be a good fishing spot with all those fish heads, plus the water really goes up high when the lake is up. If you look closely at the first photo, you will see a red on that hill, the water goes a little above that. I am excited to taste some fish from this lake. Tim better get to fishing next year! :) He doesn't have his own fishing pole and is always wanting to borrow dadda's. He talks about fishing so he must have remembered our fishing trip in Kansas.

  14. That's a beautiful and peaceful place. You can for sure go fishing there since there's a sign of good fresh water creatures you've seen while walking along the trail.
