From Blanket To Cloth Diaper

I have been cleaning out our closet for few days now and was able to donate bunch of things to the church already and still has more to go, but there are certain things I just could not giveaway yet like my little man's receiving blanket when he was a little baby. I decided that if I can't give them away that I could use it for something so I turned it into my little girl's cloth diaper. If you have been following my blog, you already know that I use cloth diapers for my little bee (second child). Even though I think she has good number of cloth diaper stash now, I still want more because cloth diapering is addictive. Like they are just cute and it comes in fun prints and colors. What can I say? I decided to turn an old receiving blanket into a cloth diaper and this is how it turned out.

For this diaper, I used the Rita's Rump Diaper Cover pattern that I turned into a pocket diaper style, and you can find it online and print it for free. It is from a fleece receiving blanket, it's so soft and gentle on baby's bum, and for that blanket I made one cloth diaper out of it. I just serged the sides of the diaper, sewed the elastic on the leg area and the back as well, I double stuffed it with one of my bamboo inserts and another mama ease insert, attached the snappi and it was ready to wear. One easy and really quick cloth diaper sewing. Cute, eh?

No snaps. No Velcros. Just fold and snap it with a snappi or a pin.

And the verdict? I think she likes it! It is so cute and I could not help myself from pinching her cute cloth diapered bum. Softie, softie! Not only it is softie, it works well too. If you have some unwanted baby blankets that you want to get rid of or any unwanted shirt maybe, send them my way. I would love to take them! LOL!

Have a cute bummy day! I mean, have a great one!

Cloth Diapering Little Traveler

My family and I went on a 2-day trip across Kansas the other day and of course our two kids were with us. I would say that our little man is a seasoned traveler as he has been around a lot before he even turned one year old. On the other hand, it was our little girl's (5 months old) first official road trip with the family. Usually, when you go on a long road trip with little ones it can be a nightmare or a stressful one, but this trip was different. We all had a great time, we were not in a hurry and we made stops to make sure we all can get out of the vehicle, take a breather and stretch out. It was important for us that our little man can go out and play at the park and go down the big slide because for him it is all about the big slide. And our little 5-month old baby girl was a trooper! She did not cry or fuss at all, she was calm and she was sleeping peacefully. It was so cute every time she'd wake up and she sees her kuya (big brother) beside her, she would giggle, laugh and scream because she was wanting to talk and play with him. Precious! All in all, it was a successful, safe and stress-free trip for the whole family.

But before the trip, while I was packing and preparing I had a little bit of a decision to make whether or not to cloth diaper her or use disposable diaper while on the road. I thought about it over and over again and in the end I went with the cloth diapers. Since it was only a two-day trip and I don't have to wash the diapers even up to the third day, I  went with  it. Although I am not going to lie, but I did buy for the first time some disposable diapers as my backup in case of emergency. You know, just in case, but I ended up using cloth diapers the entire trip. I had no leak problems and no fussy baby.

To show that she was wearing her BumGenius diaper before buckling her up safely and hitting the road. Thank you so much BumGenius for being so genius in making diapers that work really well.

Note: Not paid to mention their product, but I thought this will help you figure out which diapers out there that work really well in case you take interest in cloth diapering. This is one of them.

On our way back home, we made a visit to the Salt Plains in Oklahoma. More photos and details about the trip on the next post. It was amazing!

Cloth diapering a baby while on a road trip is just like when you use disposable diaper. You change it when it is time to change except you don't need to throw it away, but keep it in the wet bag, spray a little bit of odor remover and your done. Just throw it in the washing machine when you get home and dry. I don't know what I was thinking when I thought I might have some problems with it or something, but really it is like changing disposable diapers except they are washable, cute and fun, and safe on the bum.

Good morning, little one! She is up and ready to hit the road again.

My little girl on the swing.

All in all, it was one successful cloth-diapering-first-official-road-trip for this baby.
Cloth diaper rocks!

Note: By me sharing things about cloth diapering is my way of hopefully inspiring you to maybe try cloth diapers and I don't want you to feel like you are a bad mama because you are not cloth diapering your baby. That is not my intention. In the end, it is your decision to make whether or not to cloth diaper your baby and your decision to make what is best.

Cloth Diapering Baby Girl

My little girl is turning five (5) months old today! Oh how fast she is growing and she is even more beautiful every day. She has been such a great little baby and a little bundle of joy to our family. She loves her kuya (big brother) Harley even though kuya sometimes gets a bit rough on her. Kuya doesn't know better so mama has to keep an eye on him.  My little Selby loves it when kuya is around and plays with her. I hope these two will really get a long when they grow old and be the best of friends. She is definitely a food lover and right now her faves are bananas and avocados. Man! She can devour that thing like lightning. Totally different from my little man when he was this age. Anyway, I am blessed with two wonderful kids and I am glad I get to take care of them and witness my kids grow up every day. Motherhood may not be easy, but like they all say, it is worth it! Happy 5th Month Birthday to you, sweetie Selby!

Newly washed and folded cloth diapers. It makes me excited watching her diapers all filed up ready to wear. So cute!

I have been cloth diapering for about four (4) months now and I must say I made a good decision. Cloth diapering definitely is for me and my lifestyle and I don't mind the dirty job at all. I have not purchased disposable diapers for her since she was born, but I didn't get to cloth diaper her right away because it didn't fit her at first. I didn't want to buy newborn cloth diapers because she will outgrow it fast so I mostly bought one size diapers and I made some of them as well. I was able to use disposable diapers with her for about a month and just used up all of the gifted diapers that I got from the shower. I started ordering diapers when I was pregnant with her and I would say about 50 diapers is good enough to not do laundry for three days. Of course, you can buy more if you want to, but a good number for your cloth diaper stash is about 50.

Cloth diapers do not come that cheap, but I know in the long run we will be able to save up some money even though we wash them, buy cloth diaper detergent, etc. It still is cheaper than buying disposable and it is safe on my girl's bum and for the environment. I have less problem with rashes and with that said I don't buy butt cream or if I do, I don't use the cream that often so it saves money. My little girl sure loves it!

The way I wash them is I use a tablespoon of the detergent safe for the cloth diapers, then I use distilled vinegar wish helps get rid of the odor and it acts as a softener as well. It works for me! I always use the sun to dry and bleach them and the only time I put them in the dryer was when I first washed them to seal the stitches in the PUL or the waterproof part of the CD. Even during the winter I don't use the dryer, I use the drying rack instead. My cloth diapers are happily hanging in the clothes line drying up and getting some sun bleaching.

It looks so cute on my girl's bum! I love all the fun prints and colors to choose from and you can never get that from a disposable diapers. That's why I am hooked! Cloth diapering is very addictive, I tell you!

If you want to know more about cloth diapering and stuff, just let me know and I will be willing to help. Just in case you are interested! Enjoy the rest of the day!

In Her New Cloth Diapers

She is modeling her new cloth diapers that she got from her tita (aunt) Michel Breyer. She looks good in it. She wore this diaper for 3 hours and no leaks at all. There will be a full review about these diapers later on. I had to test them out for few days before coming up with a review. For now, I'll share you some cute photos of her wearing the diapers. How cute!

It's weird because the day I received these diapers in the mail was the same day that tornado hit Branson, MO. This diaper has the name Branson, MO. on it. Talking about tornado, I feel sorry for the people who are affected by the recent storm. Tornado season came early this year. Keep safe, everyone!

My little girl will be four months in two days. Oh how time flies by so fast!

I love this style of diaper.
The looks and color I really love!
I wish it was a waterproof one and no need of a cover as it is pretty the way it is.
Mommy Michel did a great job making these diapers.
Thank you so much!

Freebie Cloth Diapers From A Friend

I was so excited when I saw these babies in the mail. I mean freebies people, freebies! These are from mommy Michell Breyer from Nebraska who makes cloth diapers, kid's clothing and other things and she is absolutely wonderful. We have not met in person yet, but she's already a good friend of mine. We talked online and I can tell she is one genuine person and I love her! She has an online shop called Bunzoo which features things that she made herself. I agreed with her that I get free diapers in exchange for my honest opinion and I can't wait to test these out. I am really excited! Thank you, mommy Michell!

These are diapers made out of t-shirts. I know! I am not sure yet as I have not heard back from her, but I think these are waterproof as I felt like the PUL is sandwiched between the t-shirt materials. Once I get to test these out, I will show you more features about these diapers. Cute colors!

My little girl's bum is sure going to be happy!

On the other note, we had another beautiful weather today and I ended up wearing shorts. My kids and me also went to a friend's house and had really good Pinoy meal.  I was very happy!

Hope you had a great day!

My Cloth Diaper Stash So Far

Like I said in my earlier post that I am into cloth diapering this time around. I wish I had done this to my little man because they are just so darling, fun and Eco-friendly. I am sure it would be nice to not go to the baby aisle anymore and grab a bunch of disposable diapers and even wipes. Yes, I am also making some cloth wipes. It will save us some money and gentle to the environment. So here are some photos of my cloth diaper stash so far and more in the mail. Actually, I am making my own homemade cloth diaper as well so I better get me some materials then.

This is my stash so far and I have some coming in the mail next week. I can't wait to order and make some more. They are right! Cloth diapering can be addictive. I get so excited looking at these cuties and all the fun colors and prints. I need to order more printed ones. My little girl would sure look cute in them.

At first try I thought I won't be able to make a good cloth diaper so I almost gave up, but then it just needed some getting used too and a good pattern and I am hooked. Can't wait to make some more!

Special thanks to mommy Michele Breyer for being so nice and generous. She gave me a bunch of things from baby clothes to these diapering materials. I appreciate it so much, mommy Michele. She has her own blog and online store called Bunnzoo featuring all of her handmade items from cloth diapers, baby clothes and more.

There are tons of good reviews on the BumGenius cloth diapers so I am ordering some more and these will be used more like for traveling.

These are the ones from Lovely Pocket Diapers by Melissa Virgil (I am not paid to mention her company) and I have read good reviews about these diapers as well so I ordered a bunch of them. The best thing about it is that they are affordable and I am sure it will work well on my baby. My favorite print is the one on the very top called the "Rose Rave". It's so soft and since it's from the Rave collection, it has inside gussets that will help keep everything in the diaper and prevents leakage especially during blowouts. You know what I mean.

I surely need more inserts and hopefully I'll be able to buy some more materials so I can make my own. Saves money!

My hand hurts from putting all these snaps on the diaper cover. There are three rises that you can adjust from Small, Medium and Large. This one is set on the small setting. We'll see how this works on my baby.

I decided to try and put ruffles on the bum. Next time, I am using the Vintage lace that I bought. I am sure it will look cute on her.

Last, is my handmade winter fleece hat and shoes for the baby. I had some extra fleece fabric so I went ahead and made her a winter hat. Since mommy was so busy preparing things for the little girl, I had to make one for my little man as well, which is not shown in the picture. His is made out of maroon wool hat with car applique.

So cute! Enjoy the rest of the day, everyone!

Due next month!
