The Importance Of Being Harnessed

Bras seem to have a knack for getting themselves into the news. In the 1970s, bra-burning characterized the Women’s Liberation movement and four days ago, Katy Perry got her hair caught in the wheels of a novelty spinning peppermint bra during a live performance: how times have changed.

You’ll be pleased to know that Ms. Perry’s tour insurers have launched something of a vendetta against the offending item, worried that it might seriously injure her neck. And rightfully so – with the news that women’s breasts are getting bigger, bra-related injuries are on the up. Or more correctly, braless-related injuries are.

Whether you are looking for Katy Perry-style novelty bras complete with spinning discs, sexy underwear to treat the man in your life, or beautiful and comfortable lingerie for the fuller figure from the likes of Elomi, it is important to a) make sure you wear a bra in the first place and b) buy a bra that fits.

This is particularly important for women with larger breasts, who will feel pain and discomfort if they don’t wear a bra. However, what a correct-fitting bra will do for every woman is give her support and help her to maintain a better shape, while also making her appear slimmer.

The latest bra-related news item showcases the $1 million diamond encrusted bra made out of 18 carat gold. Weighing a kilogram, it consists of over 750 grams of gold and over 500 carats of multi-colored diamonds.

Although this might make it seem as though diamonds are a girl’s ‘breast’ friend, they are in fact out shined by bras that fit properly. Wearing a bra that is too small can be very unflattering – bursting out of your balconette will do nothing but draw attention to the size of your breasts, whereas wearing an over sized bra offers little support and fails to accentuate your curves.

So, how to go about finding the perfect fit?
Various stores have special fitting rooms for lingerie, complete with a qualified fitter on hand who can measure your under bust and cup size and then select a range of bras for you to try on. Your new bra should feel reasonably tight, though not so much as to be restrictive.

With more and more lingerie manufacturers bringing out pretty and feminine ‘plus size’ ranges, availability is no longer an issue for those with a fuller figure. Beautiful bras that fit are within reach of everyone – so there’s no excuse for wearing the wrong size!
