Family Time: Nature Trail Hike

Last weekend, my family and I headed for a hike on the Nature Trail they have at the Maxwell Fishing Lake, not far from where we live in Kansas. The weather was beautiful, it was nice and warm and the wind wasn't blowing because it seems like it is always windy here in the little town of Galva, Kansas. We thought it was a perfect day to go for a hike that we have been planning ever since we moved to this area. It was also good for the kids to be out of the house, inhale some fresh air, and get some exercise. Lately, we have been staying inside the house because of the nasty weather so whenever we have the chance, we take advantage of it. Sometimes we take the kids to different parks around the area so they can run around, play with other kids, and or my little man can ride his new kick scooter, which it seems like he learns a new trick every day. But this time, we wanted to do something different than usual so we headed for a hike.

Our first impression of the trail was it was just going to be a short hiking trail and there won't be much to explore, but to our surprise it wasn't actually what we thought it was. The Nature Trail was right next to a little creek where the kids enjoyed throwing some sticks in the water and watch it float away. We did stop in an area where it was swampy like, with lots of dried cattails, birds, ticks (eeewwww), and we were amazed when we saw two beaver dams. It was a neat little area where it was quiet, peaceful and with wildlife around you. We also showed the kids what the beavers did to the trees. Our hike was part family time and educational time because the kids learn something about mother nature, wildlife, and healthy lifestyle. The wonderful thing about our hike was, we didn't spend any money and we all had a great time. After our hike, we headed back to our Jeep and we had a little picnic by the lake. All in all, we had a beautiful Sunday afternoon family time, we got our workout done and we had a great time. It goes to show that spending some family time and having fun doesn't have to cost you a whole lot of money.

The Maxwell lake was also beautiful and seeing that large body of water was interesting and therapeutic somehow. People were out fishing and just spending some time outside. Our next plan would be going on a fishing trip and hopefully catch some bass. Oh how I miss eating fresh fish. After our hike and a short picnic by the lake, we drove to the Observation tower, but the temperature started to drop and the wind was blowing hard we didn't stay long. We hope you had a wonderful weekend!

    1. Buti pa kayo dyan malapit sa lake MommyA, kami malayo. It's challenging to go for a hike with kids but it's beneficial because you are carrying them, hence, a good exercise.

  6. I love nature hikes and I feel envious that the trail near you is very close to mother nature. We make most of the trail here in the urban area. We have walkways along the riverbanks but not much plants and wildlife in the area. Still a nice and healthy way to spend with the family.
