Project 12/366: The Fisherwoman In Me

These photos were taken years ago.

I was still fishing even when I was pregnant with my first child.

I remember when I first got here it was the Spring season and my husband was so excited to take me fishing and he told me there were some lunkers where we are going to fish and so we went fishing. He casted the line and waited for a bite and the first fish that he caught was this itty-bitty fish and I said: "Is that the lunker you were telling me about?" And we both just laughed out loud.

I was showing off my catch of the day.

I was never into fishing back in the Philippines, yet when I got here I love it. My husband taught me how to hook the worms (the real worms my friends), taught me how to tie a hook, how to cast and just pretty much how to be good at fishing. I love the thrill when you know you got a fish on your line, then the fish starts fighting because it doesn't want to get caught. It is exciting and fun! I probably caught about 10 to 12 catfish one afternoon more than what my husband caught. He always tells me that I must have been a fisherman or a fisher woman in a different life. It felt natural to me.

It's not going to be long and next month fishing season will be up. I can't wait to catch some bass down at the gravel bar. Since we don't have an ocean around in Kansas, we fish at the river. Bass is my favorite and I usually catch them this big or even bigger. The last time I caught two, I gave away the other one to a good friend of mine. She loves it so much she could not wait to go with us next time we fish. I hope I get lucky and I can catch me some bass. Love it!

If you ask me how I like to prepare my fish? I like to fry it whole. Yes people, the whole fish. With the head, tail and all (except the guts). That's how you get to really enjoy eating fish and I am glad my husband is the same way. He does not like it filleted nor me because it really looses all that flavor without the bones. My husband and my son loves to eat the crunchy tail.We love the fish meat that is close to the bones as it has a lot of flavors. That's how we prepare the fish in the Philippines, we don't fillet it.

Anyway, nothing much going on around here today as it is cold and rainy. I hope to be able to attend the Zumba class tonight though. Enjoy the rest of the day!

    1. Mommy Rcel, I hope you guys get to go fishing. I bet you will like it. It's fun to catch a fish your self. Although sometimes it can be a bit boring or maybe not boring, but kind of sad if you don't get a fish. hehehe.. It takes a while to wait for a fish to bite so I hope you enjoy! :) I would love to go ocean fishing one of these days though then magsugba dayon. hehehe... :) Yum!
