Food! Food! Food!

One of the things that I miss about the Philippines is the food. It is not easy to get those types of food around where I live or I have to order it online which can cost a bit much. My grandma used to make bananacue and turon and sells them and whatever she has left she would go around and give it to her grand kids. It is absolutely delicious! Just the other day I bought some banana plantain and thought of making some turon and I did. It is a caramelized banana roll and one really good snack to munch. It is quick and easy to make.

Here's how:

-- I usually halve the ripe banana plantain so I can make lots of turon out of it. Once you halve the banana, cut in into three.

-- Get your egg roll wrap ready and sprinkle a little bit of brown sugar on your wrap and place the banana on top, then start rolling to seal your banana. There should be an instruction that comes with your egg roll wrap on how to roll it. Pretty simple. Make sure to brush some egg wash along the edges to seal the roll.

-- Once you got all wrapped up, you are ready to fry it in a pan with hot oil. You don't need to deep fry it if you don't like, just at least half of the roll is submerged in the oil is good. Or you can go ahead and deep fry it as well. Whatever floats your boat.

-- When the roll turns golden brown and the sugar has caramelized, it is done and place it on a paper towel to get rid of some excess oil and transfer it to a plate. Make sure not to leave it too long on a paper towel as the turon will stick to the paper, then you will be eating "turon ala paper towel". Trust me. I know!

Really great snack!

Another dish that I made the other night was wild Venison. If you don't know what Venison is, it is a meat of a game animal, especially Deer. We have some stashed in our freezer since my husband caught a deer last year, so the only meat we have left is venison. Absolutely lean, tender and as organic as you get. Roaming freely and wild at the farm. When I first got to the USA I was not a fan of any game meat, just because I was not used to it, but later on I have acquired the taste for it. My husband likes the way I prepare my meat. I just cook it in its own marinate until all the liquid is absorb and the oil that's in the marinate will start frying the meat and turns it into this oh-so-good meal.

Anyway, this was our meal the other night with some Swiss Chard fresh from our garden, with some mushrooms and a bit of asparagus from the farm, and mashed potatoes on the side. One great meal it was! Tonight I am making my own version of Pasta Carbonara, therefore I am out of here and see you later on. I will be doing my blog hop hopefully tonight and get to visit you as well. Have a great day!
