Space Saving Tips For Smaller Homes

No matter what size your home is, it’s likely that you're wasting space – just think of the surprise you get when you move out of a place and see it with no furniture! If you’re living in a home that has limited space as it is, you need to think carefully about how to use furniture. These simple tips will make sure that you banish clutter from your home and use the space to its full potential.

Add more storage space

It goes without saying that having more storage space means more floor and table space. If your home is lacking in cupboards, invest in some storage solutions. Kidspace Furniture can be used for children’s bedrooms while, as a general rule, don't be afraid to buy magazine racks and bookcases – while
it may seem counter-intuitive to be introducing new items, their addition will almost certainly remove clutter and save on space.

Double up the space you’re using already

When you’re looking for storage spaces, you need to think about space you’re already using. A low bookcase can be set under a window, or behind your sofa. This is space that probably doesn’t get used much anyway, but can double up as storage for extra clutter. Having a bookcase behind the sofa also
means it can act like a table, so you won’t need to clutter up your living space with coffee or end tables.

If your sofa is pushed back against the wall, consider using a hollow chest as a table. That way you can store bits and pieces inside, and it’s space that you would be using anyway.

Lighting and mirrors

Although not necessarily a space saving tip, adding lights and mirrors can create the illusion of extra space. If you have any dark and dingy corners in your home, put a lamp there to brighten it up and your room will instantly look bigger. A large mirror on either wall will really open up your space and prevent it from feeling claustrophobic.

Whatever size your living space is, there’s always something to be done to create more room. Have a think about how you’re using your existing space and don’t be afraid to clear whole areas out – then you can celebrate by cluttering the place up with people!
