Red, White, & Blue

What a beautiful weather we have today in Kansas considering it is July. Usually it would be hot and humid at this time of year, but we are very thankful for this weather. We can only hope and pray the 4th of July weather will be like this. That would we wonderful! 

Today we went out of town to visit a really good friend, who is by the way a 98 1/2 years old lady. She's my husband's teacher and my husband's dad's teacher too. She is a sweet lady and it is always wonderful to see her. After our visit, we also went to the park so we could all get out, have fun and take advantage of this weather. It actually was a good day today seeing familiar faces, and talking to people that we know and haven't seen in a while. It was good to see you all! 

Then, after the park, we headed our way to the grocery store to shop for groceries. We bought a lot of fruits and vegetables today and I am one very happy mama. These past few days I have been on a no meat or chicken diet, except I still do eat eggs and fish. I don't know why because I am not really planning on becoming vegetarian or anything, but we will see where this leads to. I am just slowing eliminating the meat and chicken, but for me it is hard to give up eggs and fish. Anyway, have a great one!

Rummage Sale Haul: For Under $17

Earlier this month I went to a rummage sale here in town and I scored me a few items. While I was there, I realized how much I really miss shopping at the rummage sale and how much I miss the people. It was nice to see some familiar faces and talking to them. 

During my thrift shopping, I ended up spending under $17 for five grocery bags full of junk. I mean goodies! I was really hoping to find more kids clothes and some vintage dresses, but I didn't. Maybe next time, which probably means next year. Ouch! I am really going to miss it. Here is my Rummage sale haul.

It is actually a spacious building and this is just the other side of it. I wasn't able to take a photo of the entire building. 

I got some clothes for me and for the kids, and as usual, nothing for the husband. I also got some bags and four picture frames that I am taking with me back to Wyoming in our other house.

When I first saw this skirt, I immediately thought of refashioning it into my little girl's 4th of July dress. We will see if I can do that since I didn't bring my other sewing machine.  All I have is an old one and crossing my fingers and toes it still works. She loves the design on this skirt and when she saw me wearing it, she told me to take it off because she wants to wear it. 

I was super excited when I saw this plaid skirt. Yaye! It is a vintage skirt with buttons on the side and one side pocket. It is comfortable to wear and you can bet it will get a lot of wear time this fall and winter. I have been looking for one for a long while now and I finally got one. And the fit is just right. 

I know I already have like three long sleeves in this color, but the designs are different and this one has two pockets on the front and a button-down shirt. I couldn't pass it and it is in perfect condition. 

I found another Vintage Dooney & Bourke and this time it has the shoulder straps. The last one I had, which is the white one (photo below), didn't have the straps. The awesome thing is, the strap is removable so I can just remove the strap and use it on the white one if I want to use it. 

I thrifted the white one last year and it's still in good condition. I am hoping the next time I go rummage sale shopping that I would find another Dooney & Bourke. I want more! How about you, have you thrifted lately? Have a good one! 

Our Zero-Cost Simple Fire Pit In The Backyard

Our life lately have been a bit busy (and will be busier) ever since we came back to Kansas. My husband and I have been working in the house and our yard making it look nice and livable again. One of the things that I did a few days ago was building our own zero-cost simple or temporary fire pit in our backyard. I have always wanted one so we could roast some hotdogs, marshmallows and what not. Plus, I can also use it to cook our food outside so we don't end up heating the inside of the house this summer.

We certainly are enjoying our fire pit so much and it is nice to be able to sit around the pit, and spend some family time in our own backyard. It kind of makes us feel like as if we are camping too. The kids love it too!

It really is just a simple fire pit because all I did was stacking up some bricks and formed it into a big square. I didn't use any concrete mix to make it permanent, but I might do that next summer. Not this time. It is zero-cost because the bricks were freebies from a family friend.

I still want to add more to this fire pit next summer.

Family Time: Over The Spring Break Part 1

We went on a 2-day road trip back to Kansas over the Spring Break because we have been a little homesick, plus we also wanted to get our garden started. In that way, when we get back to our old house this summer, we will have some growing vegetables in the garden. That is if they even make it, but we are crossing our fingers and toes!

Road tripping has been a part of our kids life and thank goodness I can now say they are both seasoned travelers. There might be times where they get restless and anxious to get out of the vehicle so they could run around, but that's because they have been so good sitting and sleeping in their car seats for hours. We just make sure we have plenty of food, water, favorite toys, and a few stops to grab a bite to eat or to the park. We love road trips! 

On the day we left for Kansas, there was a snowstorm and it wasn't really a pleasant drive after all. It was freezing cold and our Jeep was covered in thick ice I could barely get my little girl out of the vehicle. It was so thick that you could hear the ice rubbing against the tire, so we had to stop at the gas station to fuel up and clean up the Jeep. But on the second day, it was nice and sunny and we made it safe back to Kansas.
