Homemade/Handmade: Baby Doll Dresses

What little girl, don't like some homemade/handmade baby doll clothes for her birthday? My little girl's friend was celebrating her birthday yesterday and before we left on a road trip, I whipped up some baby doll clothing really quick so I could give it to her. I am so glad to find out that she absolutely enjoys all the handmade clothing I made for her baby doll. These were just really easy and quick to make, and yes next time I will have a little easy tutorial on making a baby doll dress. 

While I was making some of these clothes, my little girl kept asking if they were for her little baby doll Sari. She too loves the clothes and wanting to keep them, but I explained it to her that these were for her friend. She did understand that and I promised her to make new clothes for her baby doll after Christmas. What a sweet girl.

Hand Sewn Little Girl's Clothes

Sewing two cute clothes for my little girl by hand sure makes me appreciate that sewing machines were invented. Or that you can buy them at the store ready made if you don't know how to sew. It is amazing how the women back in the hey days made their dresses by hand. It takes time and patience. 

I picked up these two vintage patterns during my rummage sale shopping and I wanted to use it and make some clothes for my little girl. Fortunately, we made a trip out of town, so I bought some fabrics. Well, the store that we were at didn't have a variety of fabrics to choose from, so I ended up with these so called Super Stax. There were 8 pre-cut pieces of fabrics in different colors and prints and I made two things out of it so far. I have a few pieces of fabrics left that I can still make one wrap around skirt for my little girl. I have seen some really cute fabrics online that I would love to order one of these days, so I can start making clothes for my kids for the fall. 

A 3T Romper I made using a vintage Romper pattern. I can actually make one with long pants for the colder months, which is an awesome thing about the pattern I got. I need to go fabric shopping one of these days.

You can tell it is hand sewn by the buttonhole. Not perfect, but I did my best to do a clean hand sewn romper. 

With this dress, my girl can actually wear it differently. I mean, the front can be the back- side or the back can be worn front-side.

Her Outfit: Homemade Patriotic Dresses

Just a really quick post about my little girl's homemade Patriotic dresses that I made for her the other day. Remember when I went thrift shopping and I found this skirt? Well, I finally busted out the old sewing machine that was my mother-in-law's and I started sewing. No patterns here and no tutorials because there is a sea of dress tutorials out there in the internet world now, where you can go check out if you want to make one for your little girl. Or, if you need any help and have some questions for me, then feel free to ask. 

First one is a dress with an open back. It actually has a bow on the front, but you can't see it since it blended well with the dress.

The hem is a bit of a hi-lo style. 

The second one is a top with an open side, which will be nice and cool for the summer weather. The white skirt is also something I thrifted awhile back that I refashioned into her own skirt.

Little Girl's OOTD: Refashioned Le Jardin Des Fleurs Vintage Frock

I don't know what has gotten to me, but for some reason, I just didn't want to wear this dress anymore. I love the prints and the pretty flowers, I like the style and the cut, but the other night I decided to refashion it into my little girl's dress. Because it has been sitting in the closet for quite a while now that I could no longer stand it and had to do something with it, so it can be used again and not just collecting dust. And so I refashioned it. This is one of my vintage dresses that I got from a rummage sale a couple of years ago, and you can see me wearing this dress on this post. 

I have no pattern or tutorial for this dress, but I just used one of my little girl's dress as my template or guide to creating this dress. It was actually easy to make, except for the collar part, which I somehow have a hard time making. 

A snap closure on the back and why not add a big bow, too! And don't forget those pink Converse shoes! 

I added a little Peter Pan collar for my little girl's dress. It is not perfectly made, but I like it the way it is. It looks way cuter on her. Also, I seem to gravitate towards making this style of dress for her, and it reminds me this dress I made her when she was one year old.

Sewing Time: Dresses For My Little Princess

I have been a little busy with my sewing machine these past few weeks and all I have been making are clothes for my little girl. I had some scraps or cut-out fabrics, vintage fabrics, and unwanted dresses,  that needed to be made into something and I made it into dresses. I didn't spend a lot of money on these clothes because the vintage fabrics I got are around 25cents, 50cents, and up to $3. I also saved some of my cut-out fabrics from many of my altered skirts and made it into my little girl's skirts too. The nice thing about having a baby girl this age (17 months old) is that I can use even little scraps of fabric to make clothes out of it.

Yellow Eyelet Dress and as you can see from the stores these days, laces and eyelets are "IN" this season. All I need is a belt and she will be rocking this dress when warmer weather rolls in. I am excited!

I made her a peplum top that was easy to make from a vintage fabric.
 

I have plenty of snaps from my cloth diaper projects so I used it.
I find snaps and zippers are easy to use when it comes to children's clothing.
The top part of this dress, which is the printed one is a scrap from a previous project.
 

All in all, I made about twenty (20) items of clothing for my little girl alone. I would say, I spent under $10 dollars for all these clothing.
Next time, I hope to make something for my little man.

Bits N Pieces: Our Life Lately

Busy household this has been these past few days. From traveling and house hunting, we finally found a place to rent and will be moving early week next month. I don't really know if I am up for this or not, but I guess I have to. New place. New town. New people. New adventure. What a summer it has been for us.

Another thing that made me busy was prepping a lot of veggies and fruits that we have in our yard freezing them for the winter. I have been peeling, coring, chopping, cooking, all kinds of -ings I have been doing. Although it is a lot of work, but I really don't mind afterall because I know our freezer is going to be filled with food that came from our yard. I am thinking there might be a lot of pear bread and maybe pear ice cream making once we move to our new place. Exciting! I also made some pear honey the other week and was able to make 13 half pint jars of pear honey. Yummy!

Because we had few garden goodies left, we traded some of them off for some fresh farm eggs. Goodness, it was so good. It's been awhile since I had some really good organic eggs. I even made myself an egg sandwich on a homemade bread that I made with some fresh tomatoes from our garden. Ah! Good life.

I know it is summer and the heat is brutal, but it did not stop me from making some homemade bread. There is just nothing better than devouring some fresh homemade bread. My little girl seems to love it.

Some vintage Quilted Crystal Jelly Jars that was from my mother-in-law. They are way too cute to use for my pear honey, so I bought some canning jars at the store instead. That way I can give some away to some friends as well.

I am hoping to convert one room in our new place as our entire closet, so I don't have to tuck away seasonal clothes. Half of my closet are all vintage clothes and half not. I did another closet cleaning and got rid of some clothes. Well, I'm still not done. More clothes need to go for donation.

And here is  my family. My life and my all. There might be some challenges and tough times, but it's all worth it. As of lately, we have been dealing with a growing threenager. This little man is cute, sweet and all, but boy he makes parenting sure challenging at times. I still love you boy.
