Family Time: Snow Day For The Family

Didn't plan on going anywhere yesterday, so instead of being stuck inside the house and sitting in front of our computers, we spent a good hour of playing outside in the snow.  We had about 4 1/2 to 5 inches of snow, maybe? While we were at the table and having breakfast, I told the kids to fuel up and warm up because I am taking them outside to play in the snow. It is sad to think that the snow will all melt away and we won't even get to enjoy it as much. Instead of whining about how cold and how snowy the weather is, we might as well enjoy it. Plus, we also get a good workout just by playing outside in the snow without even noticing it. And, not to mention dressing up the kids warm, which takes up a long time also burns calories. Yep! I am telling you it probably took me 30 minutes just to dress up both kids and I was sweating in my own snowsuit.

Anyway, we made it out into the snow and we enjoyed a good hour of snow fun with the kids. When we came back inside the house, the house was nice and warm, thank goodness to the woodstove. And to my husband for working so hard to collect all those firewood. Have a great one!

My kids enjoy watching and waving at the train when it passes by, and there's this one kind train conductor who always waves back at the kids. And even honks the train, which makes Harley proud that the choo choo train is honking at him. Cute!

I am wearing a Terramar Hottotties Top

- ec2 Qwik-Dri Thermoregulation Comfort Technology.
- Anti-Microbial for freshness.
- Our warmest temperature control layer.

- Essential layering for cold weather.
- UPF Rating 50+

- All flat seam construction
- Textured grid pattern Fleece
- 5% Micro Polyester

What I love about it?
- This half-zip top really is warm to wear. I find myself wearing this a lot, even at home just the top and the leggings together and I am all warm and comfortable. I am wearing the top right now as I am writing this review.
- Nothing itchy. The textured fleece lining is soft against your skin.
- Thick enough, but not bulky.
- It also has thumb loops, which you can't see in the photo. The thumb loops keep your sleeves down to keep the warmth in. And it is helpful when you wear it under your jacket to hold your sleeves down and won't roll up.
- The zipper easily zips up and down.

What I love about this product?
- It feels so comfortable against your skin. That textured fleece lining inside is nothing itchy. It is soft and like I said, it is comfortable.
- While I went for a run on a very windy day, it kept me plenty warm without overheating.
- The material is not something cheap at all that would fall apart easily. It is thick enough, but not bulky when worn under your regular clothes.
- It also has the thumb loops.
- I am happy with the product.

- I love how cute the top looks. I mean, the combination of black and the neon green is adorable. My son even wears this base layer to school just as a top and it is warm enough inside the school.
- So far I have not heard any complaints from this kid that the base layer is uncomfortable. He seems to love it and in no hurry to take it off. It is really soft and comfortable for my little man to wear. The same thing goes with the pants.
- I also love that it is anti-pill because who wants a piece of clothing that pills off?
- Very happy with the products.

Product Review: Terramar Girls ThermoLite Fleece 3.0 For The Little Girl

Earlier this month, my family and I came home from our Christmas vacation in Kansas and we were excited when we saw what was inside the huge box waiting in front of our doorstep. The box was from Terramar and I was honestly very surprised at how much things they sent us. I was just expecting they would send me one or two complimentary items for a product review, but I was wrong. They sent us a whole bunch of base layer garments for my family to use. We are in the middle of winter and it is perfect that these items came in the mail. The night that we opened the box, we were so excited that we had to try them on right away and never took it off. We huddled up on the couch, watch a movie with the kids and went to bed wearing our warm and comfortable Terramar base layers on. How wonderful!

Today, I will be talking about the Girls Thermolite Fleece 3.0 for my little girl, but in case you haven't heard of Terramar before, here is an introduction.

- Tested by a 2-year old girl
- Location: Glendo, Wyoming
- Very Satisfied

What Do We Like About It?
- Soft against my little girl's skin.
- She feels comfortable in it. Nothing itchy. The base layer is the one closest to the skin so it is important to be soft and comfortable. And kids will definitely tell you if you they are comfy or not.
- No tag sticking out of the back of the neck so it doesn't irritate my little girl.
- It helps keep her warm and toasty while playing outside in the cold.
- It has held pretty well in the wash and hasn't shrunk or anything. Of course, I am not going to stick it in the dryer. I hang dry it.
- As for the sizing, the size is just right. She is wearing a size 2T. Nothing too tight or too loose.
- The construction is really good, no loose stitching and I can see it last longer.

What We Don't Like About It?
- I wish the Girls Crew top had the thumb loops because not only it helps keep the warmth in, it also helps when putting on another jacket or sweater over it. What happens is I have to retrieve the sleeves that are rolled half-way up. I have to ask her to hang on to the ends of her sleeves first before putting another layer on.

- With the Panta pants, I would like it to have kind of like a stirrup or something that would help putting on another pair of pants easier. Because again, the same thing happens with the sleeves. It rolls halfway up. Tucking it in the socks before adding another layer of pants help. I think it would be nice if they also have an added foot to the pants for the little kids like her. Just a thought!

- By the way, they only come in two different colors; black and this pink one. It would also be nice to see a range of warmer colors.

All in all, we are very happy with the Terramar Girls ThermoLite Fleece Base Layers and she has been wearing it ever since we received the products. I don't hear her crying because she is cold and wants to go back inside the house right away. The items are priced reasonably. Stay tune for another Terramar Base Layer review up on the blog and this time, I will be talking about the Women's Base Layers.

Product Review: Khombu Boots (Fashion For The Elements)

 photo GlendoWeatherAccuWeatherForecastforWY82213_zpsccbd5245.png
(This was last night's weather)

With the kind of winter we are going through here in Wyoming, a great pair of winter boots is a must. While searching for boots online, I stumbled upon Khombu. Never heard of the company before and didn't know much about them before until now. I contacted them to see if they would like to work with me for a product review and they sent me a complimentary pair of boots. I was really interested to find out how well their pair of winter boots can hold out to freezing cold weather. Well, we are about to find out.

My Review:

Actually, had these boots came in a few weeks ago where we had some frigid cold weather like below zero, it would have been wonderful to really test out the capacity of these boots. This pair of Khombu boots claims to be cold Rated to –20 °F. I was very skeptical because it doesn't look like anything that would be warm. I have a pair of heavy duty, really heavy snow boots and it is well insulated with lots of cushioning. But this pair of boots has a plush fur lining, which is thinly insulated. The night I got it in the mail, I tested it outside wearing a pair of thin knee-high socks on and my poor toes were cold. I wasn't so impressed. Then I tried it out again and this time around, I wore two pairs of socks. A pair of thin knee-high socks and a pair or really thick and warm wool socks.  So far, it kept my toes warm.

- Our temperature as of today, the 20th of December is 17 degrees F and I wore the boots with only a pair of wool socks on and it kept my feet warm and comfy. Yes, these are actually some comfortable winter boots. And it is not heavy unlike the other pair of snow boots I have.

- As you can see on the picture above, our weather last night was freezing cold. I went outside to test out these boots, I walked around in a snow covered ground and stayed outside for a few minutes. Amazingly, I didn't even think about my feet being cold because it wasn't. The combination of wearing two socks together and these Khombu boots works well. For a mild winter, these would be fine without having to wear two pair of socks.

- You would think that suede and snow don't go well together (which is true), but these boots are safe to be stumping in the snow. The waterproof part also works well. Now I have a pair of warm stylish winter boots that I can wear when I don't feel like wearing my heavy duty one.

- I just wish these were a pair of knee-high boots as I don't particularly like the calf boots. It makes me feel like it is accentuating my stumpy legs. Plus, with the length of the boots, it is not so flattering for someone short like me. It makes my already short legs look shorter. I am well aware I am a shorty mama, but for a shorty people like me shouldn't be wearing a pair of calf boots. And that's just me being so vain. Nevertheless, I will continue to wear it if it means keeping my little feet warm.

- I like the design of the zipper pull because it is easy for me to zip the boots up or down. You really get a good grip of the zipper pull. And yes, I do like the design and the color. I like that these days you have the option of wearing fashionable boots while keep your feet warm and comfortable. Because a lot of times, comfort and style doesn't go hand in hand.  But with Khombu boots, you get both. The non-slip sole works really great and that is one of the things you look for in a pair of winter boots. Great traction!

- One of the things that I also look for in a pair of boots is to make sure that is has plenty of room for my stumpy legs. And I am sure a lot of you can relate with me on this one. I don't have skinny legs so I have to make sure it fits. With my new pair of Khombu boots, I have plenty of room that I can even wear two pair of socks. This one is a size 6, Medium.

- To be honest, this wasn't really my first choice of boots, but since this was the only one in my size, I went with it. I am still glad I got it because now I have a new pair of winter boots to wear. Let's see how long it will last before it falls apart? I will update this post so you know how durable or not these pair of boots are. So far, it is holding up pretty well and I am quite content. Come back here in a week or two for more Khombu Boots update. Thank you, Khombu

- Update: January 9, 2014. These boots need two pairs of thick socks on when wearing outside in a frigid cold weather. They are not well insulated. Wool socks are great to wear with these boots.
