The High Plains Homestead In Nebraska (Part 2): The Hunter Room

This is the part two of our trip to the High Plains Homestead in Nebraska, and if you miss the first part of it, click here. We were lucky we got us a room for the night and we stayed at "The Hunter" room. It is not like a modern and fancy room, but has a rustic charm. Perfect place to wind and unwind and a place to get away from it all. There is no TV, but there's internet connection so it really is quiet at night time. I think all of us had quiet a good night's sleep.

The High Plains Homestead In Nebraska (Part 1)

High Plains Homestead is located 16 miles northwest of Crawford, Nebraska. Out in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by the rugged badlands and the beautiful pine ridge, is where this unique, peaceful and quiet retreat can be found. At first, I wasn't sure if my husband made the right decision of booking us a night to stay at the High Plains Homestead, but boy was I glad he did. It was like being back into the Wild Wild West or something and you get to explore around what they called their little "Old Town".

There's not a lot of people out there, but the people that you will meet at the Homestead are really nice and friendly. I must say though, that the food is absolutely delicious. Kudos to the Chef for the best steak we have ever had so far. Moist, tender and perfectly seasoned. He knows what he was doing. Too bad I didn't get to take a shot of the steak, but it was so good that I didn't have time to take photos, but to eat. People would come to the High Plains Homestead just to have a meal because their food is that good. And oh! I better not forget to mention the really delicious homemade pie. Make sure to ask some when you come to visit. The High Plains Homestead serves breakfast, lunch or dinner, and you can either sit inside the Cook Shack or be outside and enjoy the view while eating your meal.

There are only about six rooms at the Homestead so make sure to have your reservation ahead. The room includes a shower room, refrigerator, air-conditioner, but no TVs and phones in the room, if you want to know. If a peaceful and quiet retreat is what you are looking for, you might want to check out the High Plains Homestead! Thank you for the wonderful experience and great food.

Before we left the area, we went down to the creek and we looked for fossils, but the only fossil we found was this itty-bitty snail fossil. Still it was a fun short walk.

Our Bighorn National Forest Experience in Wyoming (Part 2): Deer Park Campground

We arrived at the campground so late in the day that we kind of start to worry that we may not be able to find a spot since it was during the Labor Day weekend. The campgrounds were busy and lots of people were on the road looking for camping spots. We were going to go stay at the Lost Cabin campground, but we decided to go on ahead and check out this other campground called the Deer Park, which was quite a ways. I would say it was worth the drive because we got to a camping site where it was free and near the creek. We all enjoyed going to the creek and throw river rocks, then ended up in a competition of who can hit the big rock that was in the water the most.

The road to the campground was so busy during that weekend that it looks like a highway with all the traffic that went on. People on their ATVs, Dirt Bikes, RVs, hauling their boats, even hauling their horses, and lots of different types of transportation. Even with all the traffic and the noise, my family still had a great time camping. Our camping trip to the Bighorn National Forest was also our little girl Selby's first official camping trip and we are so proud of her because she made it. We camped out for two nights at the Deer Park campground, and I would say we slept pretty early in those two nights, like we went to bed at eight o' clock. Hiking the mountains can wear you out, but it is a good workout.
